User Engagement

Welcome messages, exit-intent offers, and announcement banners

User Engagement

Use popup widgets to engage users at critical moments — onboarding, exit intent, and product announcements. These widgets don't necessarily collect feedback; they deliver messages and prompt user action.

Welcome Message

Guide new users to key features with a timed popup that appears during their first visit.

Setup

  1. Go to Widget BuilderCreate Widget
  2. Choose the Feedback template (or customized)
  3. Set widget type to Popup
  4. Customize the message: "Welcome! Here are 3 things to try first..."
  5. Add a call-to-action button linking to your getting-started guide
  6. Set trigger rules:
    • Timing: Show after 5 seconds
    • Page targeting: Dashboard or home page
    • Frequency: Once per user (first visit only)
  7. Publish and embed

Tips

  • Keep the message short and actionable — one clear next step
  • Target the dashboard or main app page after login
  • Set frequency to once per user so it doesn't repeat for returning users
  • Link to your onboarding flow or getting-started documentation

Exit-Intent Discount

Detect when a user is about to leave and present a last-chance offer.

Setup

  1. Create a new widget with the Contact template
  2. Set widget type to Popup
  3. Customize the heading: "Wait! Here's 10% off your first month"
  4. Add a field for email capture, or just show the discount code
  5. Set trigger rules:
    • Exit intent: Trigger when cursor moves toward browser close
    • Page targeting: Cart, pricing, or checkout pages
    • Frequency: Once per user per 14 days
  6. Publish and embed

Tips

  • Show the value immediately — lead with the discount, not a question
  • Target high-intent pages (cart, pricing) where the user is close to converting
  • Combine with a minimal form (email only) to capture the lead even if they leave
  • Route email captures to your Leads workflow for follow-up

Announcement Banner

Grab attention for product launches, feature updates, or maintenance notices.

Setup

  1. Create a new widget
  2. Set widget type to Popup
  3. Customize the message with your announcement
  4. Add a call-to-action button (e.g., "Learn More", "Try It Now")
  5. Set trigger rules:
    • Timing: Show immediately (0 second delay)
    • Page targeting: All pages, or specific sections
    • Frequency: Once per user (or until a specific date)
  6. Publish and embed

Tips

  • Use for product launches, feature announcements, or scheduled maintenance
  • Set a time-limited frequency so it only shows during the announcement period
  • Link the CTA to a blog post or changelog with more details
  • Use on your homepage for maximum visibility

Measuring Engagement

Even though engagement widgets are often message-first, you can still measure their impact:

  • View count: How many users saw the popup (visible in widget analytics)
  • Interaction rate: How many clicked the CTA vs. dismissed
  • Feedback responses: If the widget includes a feedback form, responses show in your inbox
